Simzer Kaya Architects is a contemporary architectural studio based in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus, offering innovative, client-centered design solutions across residential, commercial, and interior architecture. Founded in 2009 by architect Simzer Kaya, the studio is committed to delivering high-quality, functional, and aesthetically refined spaces that reflect both the needs of clients and the unique context of each project.
Our design approach integrates bold creativity with precision and responsibility. We specialize in steel-frame construction, which enables greater architectural flexibility, open-plan living, and a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor environments. Each project is treated as a unique opportunity to create meaningful, enduring architecture.
Simzer Kaya, the founding architect, completed her undergraduate education at Eastern Mediterranean University and earned her master’s degree at the University for the Creative Arts in the United Kingdom. Her international academic background informs a global perspective and a detail-oriented, design-driven mindset. Beyond architectural practice, Simzer Kaya has played a vital role in advancing the profession in Cyprus. She served as a board member and general secretary of the Chamber of Cyprus Turkish Architects, where her primary mission was to improve the quality, visibility, and professional standards of architecture in the country. In 2015, she coordinated the EU-funded Continuous Professional Development Centre (CPDC) for Architects, a project focused on elevating architectural education and practice. She has also taught architecture at Eastern Mediterranean University, mentoring and guiding young professionals in the field.
As the founder of SK Architects, Simzer Kaya believes that being present in the international architecture community is essential for growth and innovation. Time to time, she takes her team to biennales, trade fairs, and seminars, where they explore the latest technologies, materials, and design philosophies shaping the future of the profession. These experiences not only broaden the studio’s perspective but also provide opportunities to engage directly with leading voices in the field, gaining valuable insights to bring into practice.
Equally important is the studio’s active participation in international architecture competitions. Since 2023, Simzer Kaya Architects has consistently taken part in prestigious competitions across the globe, earning multiple awards and recognition for its innovative and context-sensitive designs. This commitment to competing on an international stage demonstrates both the creative ambition of the studio and its dedication to pushing architectural boundaries year after year.
